Cell Outline & Messenger 3rd Feb 2008

Cell Meeting Outline week beginning Sunday 3rd February 2008 Matthew 6:19-24

Welcome

What do you most enjoy doing in your spare time?

Word

Read Matthew 6:19-24

Between you, can you summarise the main teaching points from Sunday’s sermon?

What basic problem is Jesus dealing with in this passage?

What is Jesus saying when he talks about ‘moths, rust and thieves’? Can you think of modern day equivalents?

What happens when a Christian loses his or her focus on Biblical values (v.22-23)? How might this show itself in their life?

In what ways do you encounter the tension in v.24 between serving God and serving money?

Worship

Read Psalm 51:1-12

Play a quiet hymn/worship song on a CD and, while thinking about your own attitudes to money and material possessions, pray individually in your own hearts and minds during the track, asking God to change, shape and mould you where necessary.

Witness

What has been the most challenging thing for you so far in our teaching series about money? Is there anything that you as an individual or a group need to do to respond to it?

Pray for the mission agencies you support. Should anyone in your group be writing to any missionaries you support for their encouragement and to let them know you pray for them?

Do you need to make plans for your next social evening? Are you still praying about people you want to invite to such an evening? Would it be worth making a fresh list of people you would like to invite between now and the summer?
